Botulinum toxin – treatment of the scalp

Botulinum toxin is the best known and best researched preparation used in aesthetic medicine. It works by relaxing the muscles. It can also be used in trichology in the treatment of scalp hyperhidrosis and alopecia.

Botulinum toxin injections are recommended for people who frequently play sports, as they minimize the work of sweat glands. After the treatment, sweat secretion on the scalp during physical exertion decreases. Thanks to this, you do not need to wash your head after each workout, and your hair stays fresh for longer. Some patients report that their scalp stops sweating, and others that sweating has significantly decreased. The reaction is individual.

With androgenetic alopecia, there is a relative microvascular insufficiency. With the miniaturization of the hair follicles, their blood supply decreases. Blood vessels in the scalp pass through the intramuscular plane. Thanks to the intramuscular injection of the toxin, the blood flow in the scalp increases, and thus the nourishment of the hair follicles is improved and the diameter of the hair increases.

Studies on the effectiveness of botulinum toxin in androgenetic alopecia show very good results, but the treatment mechanism is still unknown.

Botox for the scalp is recommended to all people who suffer from thinning hair (especially in the case of androgenetic alopecia), athletes, people with headaches, trichodynia or stress-related hair loss.

The effect of the treatment lasts from 6 to 12 months.

Contraindications:

  • pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • use of antibiotics
  • flu, colds, body weakness
  • neuromuscular conduction disorders (myasthenia gravis, Lambert Eaton syndrome,
  • problems with blood clotting, the use of medicine that reduce clotting,
  • kidney and heart insufficiency
  • condition after myocardial infarction
  • skin diseases above the site where the botulinum toxin is to be applied
    skin damage.
