Skin biopsy and histopathological examination
A skin segment (biopsy) is the basic surgical procedure in dermatological practice. A skin biopsy involves removing a part of the skin lesion and examining it histopathologically to see if it is a neoplastic lesion. The examination is performed under local anesthesia, the section is taken with a scalpel or die with a diameter of 2-8 mm, then sutures are applied in the place of the tissue excision. Conducting a biopsy is often the only way to identify a malignant lesion. The clipping can be made from virtually any place of the skin, mucosa, mouth, genitals and the nail apparatus. Taking a fragment of the skin from a pathological or apparently healthy site enables early detection of severe skin diseases and enables the diagnosis of skin cancers. The sample is sent to a laboratory where it is carefully examined.
