Psoriasis of the scalp
Scalp psoriasis is a chronic skin condition characterized by excessive flaking of the skin on the scalp. It is one of the most common forms of psoriasis and can be bothersome due to itching, redness, and scaling of the skin. Although scalp psoriasis is not contagious, it can significantly affect the quality of life of patients.

Description of the problem
Although the causes of scalp psoriasis are not fully understood, the condition is linked to an immune system disorder that leads to excessive skin cell proliferation. Instead of the typical cycle where skin cells are replaced gradually, in people with psoriasis, the process accelerates, causing dead cells to build up on the skin’s surface.
Symptoms of scalp psoriasis typically include redness, itching, and excessive flaking of the skin, often in the form of white, silvery, or gray-brown scales. Some people may also experience pain or a burning sensation. Symptoms often worsen in response to stress, weather changes, infections, or skin damage.
Treatment
Treatment for scalp psoriasis can involve a variety of methods, depending on the severity of symptoms and the individual needs of the patient. The most commonly used methods include shampoos and preparations containing anti-psoriatic ingredients such as salicylic acid, sulfur, or tar, which help to clear away excess dead skin cells and reduce flaking. In addition, the use of corticosteroid preparations can help reduce inflammation and relieve itching.
In some cases, when scalp psoriasis is more severe, oral medications or light therapy (phototherapy) may be necessary. It is also important to avoid factors that aggravate symptoms, such as stress, smoking, or poor diet. If you have difficulty controlling the symptoms of scalp psoriasis, it is recommended to consult a dermatologist, who can recommend appropriate treatment and adapt it to the individual needs of the patient.
