Cellulite

Cellulite

Cellulite, commonly known as “orange peel skin,” is a common skin condition that is characterized by lumpy, nodular skin lesions, particularly on the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, and arms. It is a condition in which the fatty tissue beneath the skin clumps together and forms uneven areas, leading to the appearance of characteristic “valleys” and “hillocks.” Cellulite is a problem that affects both women and men, but due to differences in skin structure, hormones, and genetics, it is more common in women.

Description of the problem

The causes of cellulite are complex and include both genetic and environmental factors. It is influenced by, among others, excess fat tissue, hormonal changes, weakening of the skin structure and connective tissue, reduced skin elasticity, circulatory disorders, an improper diet rich in fats and sugars, lack of physical activity, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, stress and poor hygiene.

Symptoms of cellulite include visible lumpy skin lesions, a feeling of tension and heaviness in the affected areas, pain or discomfort when pressing on the skin, as well as a deterioration of its appearance and elasticity.

Treatment

Treating cellulite can be difficult and often requires a comprehensive approach. There are many non-invasive and invasive methods that can help reduce its visibility and improve the appearance of the skin. The most commonly used methods include: lymphatic massages, thermal therapies (e.g. ultrasonic lipolysis, shockwave therapy), mesotherapy, radiofrequency, cryolipolysis, as well as surgical methods of reducing fat tissue (e.g. liposuction) and laser therapies.

It is also important to introduce appropriate lifestyle habits, such as a healthy diet rich in vegetables, fruits, fiber and unsaturated fatty acids, regular physical activity, limiting alcohol consumption and smoking, maintaining a healthy weight and proper skin care. Although cellulite can be difficult to completely remove, the right approach and consistent actions can help significantly reduce its visibility and improve the overall appearance and condition of the skin.
