Hair Transplant

Hair Transplant Warsaw

Hair transplant is a procedure that is performed mainly in the case of androgenetic alopecia, i.e. the “natural” process of hair loss in men and women of different ages. This type of hair loss accompanies patients throughout their lives, it cannot be completely cured, and transplantation is a way to regain already lost hair. Hair transplant surgery in Warsaw can be performed from the 3rd degree of androgenetic alopecia.

More information about the procedure

A patient who decides to undergo a hair transplant procedure undergoes qualification by a dermatologist, trichologist and surgeon who will perform the hair transplant.

A trichoscopic examination should be performed first to confirm the type of baldness. Often, alopecia areata can be difficult to diagnose at first glance or can be mistaken for androgenetic alopecia. In the case of alopecia areata, the patient is not eligible for a hair transplant procedure.

The degree of baldness and the condition of the scalp should also be assessed for possible inflammation. Another important step is to assess the density of hair in the donor area (usually the back of the head), from which hair follicles (grafts) are taken for transplantation.

After qualifying the patient, a special protocol for preparation for the procedure is presented, where all the recommendations are described in points. They concern dietary guidelines, treatment of the scalp in the donor and recipient zones before the procedure, taking specific medications… etc.

A relaxation room is available to the patient in the clinic, i.e. a secluded and comfortable zone where they can rest, eat, spend time with their loved ones who accompany them during the procedure. Hair transplantation in Warsaw is performed under local anesthesia, the patient feels comfortable, sits or lies on a comfortable treatment chair and has a large TV with a movie platform available in front of them. Some patients fall asleep during a large part of the procedure.

Step by step procedure

  • 1

The transplant procedure usually takes 5 to 10 hours and consists of 3 stages. The first stage is the collection, which involves manually removing individual grafts from the donor zone. The grafts are sorted and prepared for re-insertion into the scalp. Every hour or at the patient’s request, breaks of a few minutes are made.

  • 2

The second stage is perforation, i.e. puncturing the scalp in the recipient zone and marking the places where previously collected grafts are placed. Between the 2nd and 3rd stage, a longer break is established, about 30-40 minutes for lunch and the patient’s rest.

  • 3

The final stage is the insertion of grafts. In this stage, previously collected and prepared grafts are placed in specific/marked places on the patient’s scalp.

FUE method

The newest and most commonly used method of hair transplantation is the FUE (Follicular Unit Excision) technique.

The FUE method involves harvesting hair units from a donor area that is completely shaved before the procedure. After local anesthesia is applied, the surgeon uses a specialized tool to make a precise incision around the hair units to harvest them. The grafts are then harvested using tweezers. The scalp is then prepared for transplantation using sapphire blades that create tiny slits or holes in areas with hair loss or thinning. The previously harvested grafts are implanted into these prepared areas. The wounds after harvesting heal within a few days, and the FUE technique leaves small, scattered and virtually invisible scars, which allows for wearing even very short hair in the future.

Frequently asked questions

  1. What are the indications for hair transplant?
Indications include androgenetic alopecia, hair loss after injuries and the desire to increase the density of the hairstyle. Detailed indications and qualification are made at a doctor’s visit.
  2. What transplant techniques are used in the clinic?
We use FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) – DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) techniques. This is a modern technique that allows for a natural effect. The procedure does not require a scalpel.
  3. Is the procedure painful?
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. It is well tolerated. The patient even has the option of using the telephone during the second stage of the procedure (hair implantation), because he lies on his back.
  4. How long does the procedure take?
The duration of the procedure depends on the number of grafts. You should reserve a whole day for the procedure (approximately 1500-2000 grafts so far means approximately 8-9 hours).
  5. How long does recovery take after surgery?
Most patients return to normal activities after a few days. Full effects are usually visible after 6-12 months. Intense physical activity should be avoided in the days immediately following the procedure. The first washings and dressing changes after the transplant take place in the clinic. These visits are included in the price of the transplant.
  6. Are the results lasting?
Are the results permanent? Yes, the transplanted hair is permanent because it is taken from areas where the hair is genetically resistant to loss.
  7. What are the possible side effects of the procedure?
The most common side effects are swelling, redness, or mild pain at the transplant site. More serious complications are rare. If you experience any worrying symptoms, contact the clinic immediately.
  8. What are the contraindications to hair transplant
Contraindications include active scalp disease, active infections, fever, blood clotting problems, and some autoimmune diseases. Detailed information on this is obtained during the medical interview.
  9. Can hair transplantation be performed on young people?
To undergo a hair transplant, you must be at least 18 years old. And be positively qualified by a doctor.
  10. How to prepare for the procedure?
The day before the procedure, you should not engage in strenuous physical activity. You should avoid alcohol, smoking cigarettes and taking painkillers that affect blood clotting for a few days before the procedure. On the day of the procedure, you should eat a light breakfast. It is recommended to wear a button-up shirt/blouse (not pulled over the head). It is worth asking a loved one to help you get home due to the medications you are taking during the procedure.
  11. What are the costs of a hair transplant?
Promotional price PLN 15,000 provided that a deposit of PLN 3,500 is paid by the end of October 2024. The later cost is PLN 9 per graft, and the total cost is determined based on the number of transplanted grafts. The final valuation is made after a medical consultation and after qualification for the procedure. Eyebrow transplant procedures cost from PLN 5,000.
  12. What are the recommendations after the procedure?
Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and sun exposure for several weeks. Detailed care recommendations and prescriptions are provided by the doctor on the day of the procedure.
  13. How often can the treatment be repeated?
The frequency of repeating the procedure depends on the individual needs of the patient. This should be determined during a medical consultation.
  14. Can I return to work immediately after the procedure
Most patients return to work after a few days, but this depends on the nature of the work performed.
  15. What are the differences between FUE and FUT?
FUE involves taking individual grafts, while FUT involves removing a strip of skin with hair. FUE is less invasive and leaves no scar. DHI involves implanting each graft separately with a precision instrument.
  16. What are the opinions of other patients about the procedure at your clinic?
We encourage you to read the opinions of our patients, which can be found on our website and in social media. Patients have not reported any adverse events so far.

Effects

After the hair transplant, a healing process begins. During the first month, you can expect the scabs to fall off and a shock of hair loss – the transplanted hair goes into the shedding phase (telogen) to form a new hair with the bulb that the previous hair left in the desired place. The whole process takes about 3 months, and in the following months the first hair growth is noticeable.

Very good results can be seen after 6 months, and a spectacular difference is visible after a year. This is due to the fact that hair grows slowly and it takes time to fully adapt to the new place. If necessary, methods are also used that accelerate the regeneration, healing and adaptation of hair after transplantation.
